Meet the Kids
Read the stories of these brave children who are battling or have battled DIPG.
Ryan Gene Mott was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor called DIPG at the young age of 8 years old, on June 16, 2015. He is a lively, caring and energetic boy who deserves a full recovery. Ryan will undergo 6 weeks of radiation therapy at N.I.H., and he will take a “pill form” of chemotherapy. It going to be a tough stretch for him and Michelle (his mom). To avoid frustrating hours on the road from home to D.C., Michelle and Ryan will stay in D.C. during the week at a hotel and come home on the weekends.
As we are heading towards the end of our 4th week of radiation and Chemo, we have noticed such an improvement in Ryan. He is walking, walking up and down stairs and I have even seen him run while playing. Now he has to sit in his wheelchair after he walks for awhile. But, he is now able to eat and drink whatever his heart desires. He no longer aspirates. His vision has even improved as well. We saw the eye doctor today, and he has noticed improvement in double vision and his left eye has improved with movement. He is stronger and has more energy and we thank GOD for these blessings. We have found out that he can stay on Chemo for 2 years, and we can stay with Dr. Warren for the rest of his life. We are so excited we do not have to find another oncologist. Please continue your prayers. The power of prayer has been wonderful.
